Get behind-the-scenes of the largest performing and visual arts festivals in the world: Edinburgh Fringe Festival,  Edinburgh Art Festival, and Edinburgh International Festival.

Artists and performers take to hundreds of stages all over the city to present shows for every taste. There are art installations in museums, galleries, public parks and alternative spaces and performing artists from big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers. The festivals are also a hotspot for creative producers and the media scouting for the next big talent.

International Festivals: Edinburgh

BUSE 425 / BUSE 525 - 3 Credits

This experiential, hands-on practicum is designed to immerse you in the creative and professional world of international festivals. It includes an online component prior to arrival in Edinburgh to prepare you to get the most out of your time in Edinburgh. Your time in Edinburgh will focus on real life experience of the festivals. The practicum culminates in a special project that you design to meet your own individual creative and professional interests.

Accommodations: You’ll stay in student apartments at Queen Margaret University (QMU) throughout the 2-week duration in Edinburgh. Each room has a private bath and a shared kitchen/lounge. Located just minutes from downtown Edinburgh, near the quaint seaside village of Musselburgh.

Schedule: The course is conducted during the Columbia College Chicago’s Summer Session beginning with an online component, before the intensive 2-week experience on site in Edinburgh, Scotland: July 31- August 14, 2024

COSTS:

There are three areas of costs for you to consider:

  1. Tuition: Summer 2023 tuition rates apply in addition to the Special Course Fee.

  2. Special Course Fee: Estimated $2,750. The special course fee includes housing and daily box lunch, all class-related field trips and entrance fees, train pass and transportation for all program activities, and several meals and events, and use of QMU facilities and classrooms. This course fee is subject to change.  

  3. Airfare, meals, spending money, etc. These are your responsibility. (Airfares vary widely, depending upon a variety of factors)

ACCEPTANCE AND DEPOSIT:

We will begin accepting applications in January 2023.

Once you are accepted to the program, a $750 deposit is required to hold your space in the course. This deposit will be applied to the Special Course Fee. We will notify you when the process for making deposits is open. Enrollment is very limited, so if you do not pay your deposit by the designated time, your place will be given to someone else. Registration begins in in April 2023. You will register for the class during early registration once we have authorized you to register, and your space has been guaranteed with your deposit.
